This November, a major survey of Barbara Kruger’s work will go on show at the Art Institute of Chicago. Featuring four decades’ worth of art, “Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You.” is expected to be the biggest show of Kruger’s work in 20 years.

Kruger is best known for her powerful text-based works that challenge issues related to politics, identity and sexuality. Spanning the museum’s interior and exterior spaces, the retrospective will feature large-scale installations, multi-channel videos and rarely seen works created by the artist in the ’80s. An audio soundscape will reach throughout the museum, while billboards, buses and public transit fare cards in the Chicago area will feature her work.

“Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You.” will run from November 1, 2020 to February 14, 2021 in Chicago before heading to New York’s MoMA PS1 and the Museum of Modern Art. In the fall of 2021, the exhibition will head to London’s Hayward Gallery before making its final stop at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
