‘Destiny 2’ Confirms November Is Its Month Off This Season

Destiny 2

Bungie

With Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost stretched into six months because of the Witch Queen’s delay until late February, we always knew there was going to be some downtime somewhere during that time. And now Bungie has helpfully marked out a full month as containing nothing new. A “catch-up” period, as it were. And that’s going to be the entire month of November, plus the first week of December.

Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost ends on Tuesday, November 2. Destiny 2’s 30th Anniversary Event with a new free activity and new paid dungeon begins on Tuesday, December 7. The five weeks in between? Bungie has confirmed that we’re just having one(?) Iron Banner and then our normal weekends of Trials. So it’s time to chill, catch-up on things, or play one of the many big games coming out in November.

Here’s Cozmo in the TWAB:

“After Iron Banner ends next week, we will still have Trials going throughout November with the new matchmaking changes mentioned in this TWAB. You can also use this time to catch up on some catalysts, knock out some Triumphs, or finish anything else taking up space in your quest log. We have some fun stuff planned for our 30th anniversary on December 7. It’s going to be a great time to play some Destiny.”

I don’t think they’re being sneaky here, and this is one instance where I am not expecting them to spring any surprise mystery quests or puzzles on us. Not ruling that out forever, just this specific month. And even if Destiny 2 is “on a break,” obviously Bungie is not, working hard on Witch Queen and other future content. But for players, some may welcome the breather, while others will no doubt complain about the drought.

After that, things get a little murky for the second half of the season. December will bring us this new, six-man activity that we know little about, and the paid dungeon is presumably something we can farm going forward (is Gjallarhorn going to have random rolls like Dead Man’s Tale and Hawkmoon?). The Dawning should be during this period as well. After that, we have Moments of Triumph, which will give us a long list of checklist items to get done, and then we have the final story beat of the season, the exorcism of Savathun’s worm leading into the release of Witch Queen.

Somewhere in December, January and February, I would expect another spell of down time, but I suppose it depends how replayable the Anniversary content is, and what Moments of Triumph will be asking of us. That’s usually paired with Solstice of Heroes, so it’s weird to see it standing on its own. I also have questions about other, non-Savathun exorcism story things going on, like Mithrax and Saint trying to find Sagira, and Crow dealing with the revelations of his past life as Uldren.

So in any case, do not be shocked if we have five straight weekly resets with nothing interesting happened. They’ve made it very clear November is a “break” for the game, and things will pick up again for the Anniversary. Stay tuned.
