Destiny 2
Bungie
While the community has not moved on from the revelations about Bungie’s layoffs, the health of the game and apparently imminent delay of The Final Shape, players are…still playing Destiny 2. And this week, that meant a rather big development.
All season long Destiny 2 has experimented with an “Imbaru Engine” puzzle room that has not been a key part of the plot, but a fun little aside where players solve a handful of puzzles ranging from easy to complex. Well, as of yesterday, they got really complex, with players asked to grab flames around the Throne World and then decipher runes that all led to…something big.
Pretty much by the time I was even beginning to understand the new puzzle it was already solved, and now anyone can input the solution for an emblem and shader. But the end result was the following cutscene, showing our Guardian attempting to puzzle out the last wish, The fabled src5th Wish in the Dreaming City, which apparently is hidden on Savathun’s wings and is our key to pursuing The Witness into the Traveler.
There’s also a final radio message from Ikora about pulling researching about Ahamkara, wishers, the wishing wall, all of it, as it’s clear everything now rests on a bargain with a wish-dragon. Wish-dragons who we hunted to near-extinction who generally hate us. Not great.
After this was solved, Bungie put out the title art for Season of the Wish, the name of a season I predicted two years ago in an entirely different context, as I believed back then we were headed toward the last wish and solving the Dreaming City curse. I was wrong, but two years later, I guess I’m right? I’ll take it. This will be the last official season of Destiny before the game moves to a more disconnected model full of longer “episodes.”
From the artwork, we get a glimpse of the armor, and some weapons that are reskins of Europa and Chosen weapons. But at least they look cool. It also seems like in the background there is the pink triangular Traveler portal, if you look closely.

As for where we found another Ahamkara, we have killed Riven at this point and I doubt she’s coming back as part of this. After the events of the new puzzle, we collect an Ahamkara egg that we apparently are incubating, and no doubt that will lead to the events of next season as it hatches. I would of course expect Mara Sov to be a key part of this season. We did have a Dreaming City-focused season just a year ago with Season of the Lost, so we’ll see what sort of different spin we have on it this time.
This is, of course, likely going to be the season that extends into a 6-7 month length given a pending delay of The Final Shape, based on what we know. While Season of the Lost was also that long, it had planned the 30th Anniversary event to go in the middle. My sources tell me nothing that big has had time to be made this time, but something will be in the gap on a smaller scale.
So, we’ll see what happens from here, and we’ll learn more about next season in the coming weeks, it seems.
