I want to put this out there that this Is educational purposes only. I’m not In no shape way or form telling you to go out there and scam someone with Google voice for financial gain or anything like that.

This is more or less letting you know what the scam is and protecting yourself. So what is actually Google voice? Google Voice is a telephone service that provides a U.S. phone number to Google Account customers in the U.S. and Google Workspace customers in Canada,

Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

It is used for call forwarding and voicemail services, voice and text messaging, as well as U.S. and international calls. Calls are forwarded to the phone number that each user must configure in the account web portal. Users can answer and receive calls on any of the phones configured to ring in the web portal.

Now that you know what Google voice is let’s move on to what the scam is. Basically the scam is geared toward people that have posted a notice online. An item for sale, for example, or a plea to find a lost pet and included your phone number.

In this scam the crook will call you, feign interest, but say they want to verify first that you aren’t a scammer. They tell you that you are about to get a verification code from Google Voice sent to you, and ask you to read it back. They are setting up a Google Voice account in your name.

They will use this Google voice account in your name and do as many scams they can up with in your name. Then when the Hammer drops you are left holding the bag and the scammer is scot free. like the tissue.

You can easily protect yourself from these type of scams by never ever giving out your verification codes for Google voice. It’s amazing on how many scams that can be put in your name just from a simple Google voice account so watch yourself.
