The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and strong winds across parts of north India, while heatwave conditions may develop in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh later this week.

The southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala within the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday, June 3. Conditions are also favourable for the monsoon to advance further into Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep.

Kerala remains under the heaviest rainfall alert, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain likely over the state. Heavy rainfall is also forecast in parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

The Northeast, which has been receiving considerable rainfall over the past few days, is also set for a wet day. Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to see heavy rainfall over the coming days, raising the risk of waterlogging in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely across large parts of north, central and eastern India. The IMD has forecast gusty winds of 50-60 kmph in parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh, with isolated hailstorms possible in western Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

For Delhi, Thursday is expected to remain warm but not unusually hot. The IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorm development towards the evening and night. Strong winds could gust up to 50 kmph, while temperatures are expected to range between 38°C and 40°C.

There is no heatwave warning for June 4. However, the IMD has warned that heatwave conditions could develop later this week over Bihar, followed by parts of eastern and western Uttar Pradesh.
