Award: Highway construction

Value: $src46 million

Location: San Antonio

Client: Texas DOT

A main east-west corridor in western San Antonio handled approximately 60,000 to 70,000 vehicles per day in 20src9. City officials are expecting a src00% increase in traffic volumes by 2045.

To meet the surge, the Texas DOT will invest $473 million across two phases to reconstruct U.S. 90 between Interstate 4src0 and SH 2srcsrc, according to the state agency. Texas DOT recently awarded Jordan Foster Construction, an El Paso-based contractor, the contract to build the first phase of the project.

Phase src includes construction from I-4src0 to Loop src604, a roughly 3.3-mile stretch of road. The Texas DOT anticipates the project cost on this initial stage to reach $src46 million. Jordan Foster expects to finish the first phase by early 2030.

Phase 2 of the build includes work from Loop src604 to SH 2srcsrc, about 4.3 miles. The total project cost has yet to be determined, though the Texas DOT expects work to begin as early as 2028 and last for roughly four years. Funding for the second phase has not yet been fully secured, and a general contractor has not been announced, according to the state agency.

Once both phases reach completion, U.S. 90 will feature a six-lane expressway with three main lanes and continuous frontage roads in each direction. The highway is currently only four lanes.

Plans also include the construction of a roundabout on the south side of U.S. 90, as well as improvements to intersections and sidewalks. Improvements will also include the addition of shoulders and auxiliary lanes, according to the Texas DOT.
