The Sonic The Hedgehog post-credits scene introduces Tails, but who provided the voice for the iconic Sonic character? After months of turmoil, Sonic has finally made his big screen debut. Sonic The Hedgehog largely served as an origin story for both himself as well as his arch nemesis, Doctor Robotnik. In doing so, the scope of the movie was made rather small with regards to Sonic’s world, keeping things at a base level in terms of story elements and characters that he’s become synonymous with.
However, the Sonic The Hedgehog post-credits scene offered up a glimpse at one of his most famous companions – Tails – with a voice instantly recognizable to committed Sonic fans. Miles “Tails” Prower quickly became one of the most popular characters in the franchise after he first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as a captive of the villain Doctor Robotnik. Ever since his debut, Tails has appeared in practically every video game that Sonic has been in, not to mention in cartoons and comics as well. Over the years, several people have voiced Tails, but recently, he has been brought to life by Colleen Villard, who took over the role in 2014.

Leading up to its release, fans were hoping to see Tails in the Sonic The Hedgehog movie, and Paramount did not disappoint. Following the exile of Robotnik to the Mushroom World, Sonic begins living a tranquil life with Tom and Maddie. It seemed like a logical conclusion to the story, but there appears to be more at work here. Not far from his new home in Green Hills, Montana, a ring portal opens, and out pops the franchise favorite, Tails. Villard once again voices Tails, with the character saying he hopes it’s not too late to find Sonic before flying away, utilizing both of his tails in a helicopter-like manner, as only he can.
The nature of Sonic The Hedgehog‘s post-credits scene makes it abundantly clear that Paramount is banking on a sequel that will not only appear more like the source material but also include many more of his friends and possibly his enemies along the way. It has yet to be confirmed if there is to be a sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog, which would ultimately depend on how well this first movie does at the worldwide box office. In the case it does happen, the cameo from Tails could be a sign of things to come, in addition to just being a delightful nod to a character with no shortage of fan following.
Given that Tails first appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game sequel, it only makes sense for him to have his live-action debut – his real debut – be in the Sonic The Hedgehog 2, if a sequel does happen, of course. But bringing in the current voice actor for Tails into the live-action movie is a nice touch, which gave a great sense of continuity and consistency to his portrayal. Plus, it’s something that video game fans can appreciate in Sonic The Hedgehog.
