For those eagerly awaiting the return of the witch apprentices, the wait just got a little longer. Following the initial announcement last month, the official website for the 20th-anniversary film for Toei Animation’s Ojamojo Doremi series, Majo Minarai wo Sagashite (Looking for Witch Apprentices) / Looking for Magical Doremi, announced today that its new release date in Japan is set for the fall of 2020.
The film co-directed by the TV anime first season’s series director Junichi Sato and Yu Kamatani (ONE PIECE STAMPEDE assistant director) was originally scheduled to be released on May 15, 2020, but it has been postponed in light of the spread of COVID-19 throughout Japan.

In addition, the “Ojamajo Doremi 20th anniversary Big Thanks Festival (Carnival)” event is also canceled (not postponed). The event was planned to be held at Tokyo International Forum’s Hall C on May 6, 2020. The crowdfunding for the event collected 34,274,600 yen from 2,928 supporters, which was more than three times its initial goal of 10 million yen. Those who want to cancel the alternative plan for the event will get all their money back.

The all-new feature film focuses on three women in their twenties: 27-year-old Mire Yoshizuki (office worker who was a returnee), 22-year-old Sora Nagase (university student who wishes to be a teacher), and 20-year-old Reika Kawatani (part-time worker). 24-year-old fashion model/actress Aoi Morikawa voices Mire, while 28-year-old ex-Nogizaka46 member Rena Matsui and 25-year-old Momoiro Clover Z member Kanako Momota are cast as Sora ans Reika.
The three know the magic doesn’t exist in reality. But through a journey to visit the places related to the Ojamajo Doremi anime series, they look for their important things that they forgot as growing up as an adult.
